Powell Valley Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting,  September 17

September 22, 2022                                                                                                                                            Home

Once a year, Powell Valley Electric Cooperative (PVEC) holds an annual meeting for its members.  Everyone who pays a power bill to PVEC is a member, and all are invited to this year’s meeting, Saturday, September 17 at Thomas Walker High School in Ewing, Virginia.  The location of the meeting rotates among the areas served by PVEC, which has three offices in Jonesville, New Tazewell, and Sneedville.

What is an annual meeting?  This is a time when members can meet with staff and board members, learn about the financial condition of the cooperative, hear a summary of the year’s activities, and vote for board members and amendments to the bylaws.  Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, this year’s meeting will be different from meetings held before 2020.  For specific information, read the section on pages 20-21 in the September issue of “The Tennessee Magazine” or go to the PVEC website (pve.coop).

This year – as always – members will vote for board members.  Usually three seats are voted on each year.  As a result of the recent passing of Dr. John Short, this year four seats will be voted on.  One seat is contested:  District 1.  The seat is currently held by Tracy Sharp, Director of Finance at England Furniture in Claiborne County.  Self-nominated for the district is Jeffrey Norris.

Another item to be voted on is the continuation of members’ receiving “The Tennessee Magazine”.  This entertaining and educational magazine is sent to every member’s home or place of business each month.  The bylaws require a vote to continue this subscription every five years.

Registration and voting take place from 9am to 11am. Members must register in order to vote.  The business  meeting starts at 11 am.  The street address is 126 Blue Gray Road, Ewing 24248.

Everyone needs to learn more about our electric cooperative.  For more information, go to  pve.coop.
